He is&nbsp;<strong>Associate Professor in International Politics<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Senior Associate Fellow<\/strong>&nbsp;at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (<strong>RUSI<\/strong>). He is&nbsp;known for his expertise in European and international security. Particular interests include the biodiversity crisis, the politics of the ocean, animal ethics, and natural resources and territorial rights.&nbsp;He has published 6 books (including with Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, and Yale University Press), and over 50 articles. His interests lie in the nature of this link, the formation of identities and in the governance of England and England\u2019s place within the UK.\u2019&nbsp;<\/em> He was Labour MP for Southampton Itchen (1992-2015) and served as a Minister (1997-2003 and 2007-2010). His final Ministerial role was as Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. His research and teaching interests include global health politics, international security, arms control, and the ethics of war. Ingi\u2019s research tackles key questions about European public policy, protection of children\u2019s rights, human rights and minority protection, unaccompanied migrant children, child refugees and migration more generally. Ingi specialises in three areas: (1) public policy, (2) human rights protection, including minority protection and (3) children\u2019s rights and refugee studies. Her most recent project used participatory methodology and produced a policy report (with Jana Kreppner and India Cook) titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/4afZCot\">Trauma-Informing the Asylum Process. He was previously Professor of Political Science at the University of Exeter. He received his PhD from Duke University.&nbsp; Prior to grad school, he spent four years in Washington, DC working for the polling firm Bennett, Petts, and Blumenthal. She is concerned with questions relating to the identities of today\u2019s diverse policy implementers and their discretionary decisions which shape policy outcomes. She uses qualitative research methods and interdisciplinary, comparative approaches. In 2023, she was a British Academy Visiting Scholar at the Centre for the Politics of Feelings, University of London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Before joining Southampton, Dr Lala Muradova was a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Comparative Politics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona (2022-2023), and a postdoctoral researcher (2021-2022) at Dublin City University (DCU) on a H2020 project focusing a comparative study of the potential of participatory institutions to address the challenges of liberal representative democracies. Lala has also held visiting positions at Nuffield College, University of Oxford (2018), University of Temple (2020) and University of Canberra (2021), among others.
